PROJECT DESCRIPTION.
Third Avenue was identified to be reconstructed in the 2010 Infrastructure Study. Westview Third Avenue was in poor condition and had drainage issues. Tagish Engineering Ltd. designed and managed a complete rebuild of the street, with replacement of portions of the separate sidewalk where required to remove all tripping hazards and broken panels.
ENGINEERING HIGHLIGHTS.
The Village wanted to improve drainage without the cost of installing curb and gutter or a storm sewer. The existing street was not really built to a rural standard or urban but somewhere in-between. Part of the drainage issue was due to homeowners parking in the Boulevard, thus rutting up the grassed areas and blocking drainage; gravel parking areas were added to the adjacent to the asphalt that will allow drainage to flow unencumbered. The road grades were changed and concrete swales were installed to further improve drainage on the street.
