TAGISH’S ROLE.  Prime Consultant

Tagish Engineering was commissioned to assess the occurrences of the Red Deer River’s exceeding its containment capacity and breeching through the Rge. Rd. 20, County road. During high mountain snow melt runoff combined with spring rainfall events, the Red Deer River has, on various occasion, overflowed and caused significant damage to Rge. Rd. 20 in the form of a total washout and loss of use of this road. Obviously this results in significant rebuild costs to the municipality.

  • Assessment and design to protect this road without excessively contributing to abnormal downstream flow diversions

  • Design which incorporated a swaled road crossing to allow the higher flows to overtop the road on a cable concrete protected surface, thus maintaining a smooth drivable surface for traffic and washout protection for the road structure in the event of damaging river diversion flows

  • Application of CC-70 Cabled Concrete

  • Application of heavy fractured limestone riprap for overflow entry onto and off the cable concrete surface

  • Preliminary Surveys

  • Assessment of the problem and innovative design to accommodate overflow

  • Detailed Engineering and Cost Estimating

  • Tendering and Contract Administration

  • Construction Observation and Inspection

  • Summary reporting for F.R.E.C. program funding
