PROJECT DESCRIPTION.
Tagish Engineering was commissioned to design and build a pedestrian access system to the westerly section of the community including access to the Provincial Building and the Community & Recreation Complex. Several options were reviewed and considered based on the variety of completed surfaces types, overall structural design, method of construction and overall cost.
ENGINEERING HIGHLIGHTS.
• Final trail alignment was selected to have minimal or no conflict with existing surface structures and sub-surface utilities
• Provided protection to the major overland storm water drainage channels with the installation of culverts, with the use of a cross-fall design to accommodate the minor flows
• Trail was constructed with minimal disruption to treed areas and existing landscaping
CONSTRUCTION HIGHLIGHTS.
The overall scope of the project was simple in concept, yet the success of the project could be attributed to the co-operation of multiply stake holders in working together to select the final trail location with minimal disturbance on existing lands, yet providing the best possible pedestrian access to all skate holders.
