PROJECT DESCRIPTION.

The Town of Penhold is experiencing rapid growth.  The existing water reservoir was coming to the end of its service life and required an upgrade in order to keep up with the Towns current population. In addition, Alberta Environment has increased its standards and upgrades to the chlorine treatment system were required in order for the Town to say in compliance.  A complete replacement of the pumping, mechanical, instrumentation, process and treatment system was required.

ENGINEERING HIGHLIGHTS.

  • Preliminary analysis was conducted to ensure that treatment and distribution systems were designed for present and future needs.

  • Upgrades to the treatment and chlorination system were designed to meet newly increased Alberta Environment requirements, as it relates to.

  • The project was a multi discipline project and Tagish was responsible for coordinating and managing sub-consultants and project stakeholders including the facility operator, materials testing, Electrical and Process Engineering. Tagish was able to compile a very competent team that worked and communicated well throughout the project ensuring project success.

  • The reservoir upgrades had to be completed in such a way that the Town’s water distribution was not interrupted as it is the only water distribution and storage facility in Town.

CONSTRUCTION HIGHLIGHTS.

  • The project was successfully completed with limited interruption to water service, a challenge given that it was the Town’s only reservoir and pumping facility.

  • During the pumping change-over, the old system was able to remain operational for a seamless connection of the new system and disconnection of the old system.

  • Following project completion, the Town was able to connect the pump controls to a remote computer for observation of reservoir status via an internet connection.
