PROJECT DESCRIPTION.

Two residential roads in Bowden were identified for infrastructure replacement of underground water and sanitary services. In addition, surface improvements were completed by way of replacement of the road structure, concrete curb / gutter, asphalt, and drainage improvements. The roads were identified by their visible frost heaving due to saturated ground conditions caused by leaking water mains, and the Town’s ongoing program to systematically replace its aging infrastructure. Tagish Engineering Ltd. designed, tendered and reviewed the execution of the work by third party contractors. The result was less infiltration for the Town, upgraded underground infrastructure and a more aesthetically pleasing street for residents.

ENGINEERING HIGHLIGHTS.

The Town had a limited budget to complete the project and the scope needed to be structured in such a way that it could be adjusted to ensure that the critical deliverables were prioritized ahead of lower priority items.  Through the course of construction further issues were identified with adjacent water mains, which were replaced within the projects 10% contingency allowance.  With the Town’s budget constraints in mind, Tagish worked diligently with the prime contractor to ensure that the extra project requirements were taken care of.

CONSTRUCTION HIGHLIGHTS.

  • The very old ungrounded infrastructure was fully replaced renewing its lifespan and lowering infiltration impacts.

  • Tagish worked with the contractor to replace additional work required within project timelines and within the projects budget.

  • Sanitary & water service was maintained throughout construction with limited interruptions.

  • Multiple drainage issues were corrected.
